The Donwood Nursing Home is a 30 bed high care facility that is located on the same site as the Diana Street Lodge Hostel.

The Nursing Home is divided into three cottages: Rose, Primrose and Bluebell.

A large lounge is situated in each cottage with lounge chairs for residents and visitors to use. The main dining area is centrally located, overlooking the courtyard with an attractive garden.

The main dining area and lounges are centrally air conditioned and heated. Outdoor seating is also provided in the courtyard. Residents and visitors are welcome to use this area at any time.

The Nursing Home aims to ensure that all residents receive the best possible nursing, medical and personal care, whilst maintaining a homely and comfortable atmosphere.

Accommodation at the Donwood Nursing Home

Accommodation is either a single room with full ensuite or a double room with a shared full ensuite. The Nursing Home has 10 single rooms and 10 double rooms. The double rooms allow us to accommodate married couples. Each room is spacious, with doors opening onto the garden and courtyard.

All rooms are fully furnished and contain a bed, bed side chair, overbed table, built in wardrobe and bedside drawer unit. Residents are encouraged to bring personal items such as photographs, ornaments, books etc. in order to create a homelike atmosphere.

Each room has its own individual heater and overhead ceiling fan.

Activities at the Donwood Nursing Home

A wide range of activities are available at the Donwood Nursing Home to promote social interaction and enjoyment of life amongst residents, while assisting with physical and mental stimulation. Activities are offered Monday to Friday, during the morning and afternoon. Residents can enjoy activities such as regular carpet bowls, bingo, tactile therapy, aromatherapy, word games/quizzes, balloon games etc. Regular concerts with visiting entertainers are also held at the facility.

Church services are also held at the Nursing Home regularly, for residents who wish to attend.

Residents have the opportunity to go on organised outings and transport is available in the Nursing Home bus. Residents are also encouraged to continue attending activities outside the Nursing Home.

Residents are welcome to provide their input into the planning of activities and make suggestions regarding other activities they may enjoy.

Services at the Donwood Nursing Home

Meals
All meals are provided and are cooked on the premises by a qualified Chef and catering staff. Meals include breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and a light supper. We have a five-week rotating menu and are able to cater for residents with special dietary requirements such as diabetic, vegetarian, cultural etc. We are also able to cater for residents likes and dislikes.

Laundry
All laundry is done on the premises in our modern laundry, by staff. Clothing and personal items must be clearly labelled. Donwood is able to assist you with labelling your clothing as we have a machine for this purpose which is used by our laundry staff.

Physiotherapy/Podiatry
We have a physiotherapist and podiarist who visit the facility regulary and are able to assist residents with any problems. There is NO charge for either service for high care residents.

Other Services
Each week we have a hairdresser who visits the facility and offers their services to the residents at a very reasonable price. Appointments can be made through the staff. Other consultants such as dietician and speech pathologist visit the facility offering any special resident requirements.
