Donwood runs a Day Centre for people who still live at home, providing individuals with the opportunity to participate in activities and interest of their choice, while at the same time providing respite to carers. The Day Centre is also available for outpatients and provides a rehabilitation clinic on Tuesday and Friday. The Donwood Day Centre group activities focus on maintaining an individual ability to live at home and in the community, by providing a planned program of activities directed at enhancing skills required for daily living. The Day Centre offers a balance clinic in order to assist participants in improving their balance and helping them control falls. Physiotherapy and Podiatry services are also available at the Donwood Day Centre. During the first home visit a comprehensive assessment of needs and individual preferences is completed. The assessment information is used to formulate an individualised care plan in consultation with other health care providers as appropriate. The Donwood Day Centre has its own seven seater bus with a wheelchair lift to assist some clients to attend the day centre and give every client the opportunity to participate in community activities. Music in various ways is part of the planned activities. A number of techniques are used during these sessions including sing-a-longs, seated movement, exercises to music and guests playing musical instruments. The day centre has its own piano and clients who play are encouraged to take this opportunity and members enjoy this activity.
